BOOK REVIEW : The Shatter Me Trilogy

Indonesian edition of the Shatter Me Trilogy

I have a curse
I have a gift

I am a monster
I'm more than human

My touch is lethal
My touch is power

I am their weapon
I will fight back

Juliette hasn’t touched anyone in exactly 264 days.

The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette’s touch is fatal. As long as she doesn’t hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don’t fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.

The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war – and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she’s exactly what they need right now.

Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.

Hello fellow booklover! what book did you currently read recently?
I started the first week in May with a series by Taherehh Mafi " The Shatter Me Trilogy "

The story is about a girl named Juliette Ferrars who's been isolated from the outside world in exactly 264 days. She had a power that when someone touch her skin they will be in a really deep painful and died. Her parents are fear from her, called her monster, threw her away after an accident that took someone life because of her. She's been abandoned, until one day, she got a "roomate " in her isolated room named Adam.
the situation in the outside world apparently in a chaos. dystopia world. World are dealing with diseases that destroying the population, animal, food, plant, and the clouds are the wrong color. The government is now under the organization called The Reestablishment. But The Reestablishment want to fix things by destroying everything. Language, culture, books, all of kind of things from the past and created a new world.
The chief commander and the regent of sector 45 under The Reestblishment, Aaron Warner, let Juliette get out from the cell and as a result proposes that Juliette should join his team in order to torture people for him.

and so on the story goes...

What I'm thinking after finished reading this books?

well well well,guys.. apparently I can't put this books to my favorite list. I don't want to said this but I'm disappointed alot .

Let me explain to you, but first of all I must remain you that I might not realise if I put alittle spoiler in it so be aware XD

ok, let's start with the first book,

 Shatter Me

The first book is the worst I think. I gave alot of expectation toward this series because of how popular it is. I read about the dystopian world situation so it's right for me to think that this book is a bout dystopian, right? but NO. It's a romance. and yeah I know that every YA novel need to insert a romance in the story. but this novel, it's all about romance. It's too much and I couldn't found any tension inside this novel.

And then, The written style. don't know how to explain but I wrinkle my eyes everytime I read Juliette talked in her mind. like this one,
He tugs me toward the center of this new universe and I’m breaking away from him, reaching out to touch the sky like I’m hoping it will remember me. The clouds are gray like they’ve always been, but they’re sparse and unassuming. The sun is high high high, lounging against a backdrop propping up its rays and redirecting its warmth in our general direction. I stand on tiptoe and try to touch it. The wind folds itself into my arms and smiles against my skin. Cool, silky-smooth air braids a soft breeze through my hair. This square courtyard could be my ballroom. I want to dance with the elements.
I also want to said about how much I do not enjoy the repetition thing in the novel.
The soldiers are standing in a square space almost identical to the one Warner and I occupy, but they’re one organized mass of black: black pants, black shirts, shin-high black boots; not a single gun in sight. Each is standing with his left fist pressed to his heart. Frozen in place.
Black and gray
and
black and gray
and
black and gray
and bleak.
Suddenly I’m acutely aware of my impractical outfit.
(= _ = ).....

I almost put down this novel. ALMOST. But I remembered to never judge a book trilogy or series because sometimes the next book can be more interesting and better than the first one.

SO, let's talked about the second book.

Unravel Me

Apparently, not much difference. *eyes rolled

Again, in every situation why it has to focus too much into her romance relationship. And she keeps pitying herself and whiny..  seriously?

If I really think about it. considering into her situation for being trap in cell in such a young age. it can be understand for her reaction. But what I don't like is that the story is too focus into those kind of thing than the real problem. that is no wow action, or things that make me shiver when I read, though the genre is dystopian. I almost give up. Until Warner came again almost near the last pages. this is where the story become interesting for me. I'm surprised to see that he is totally different and not as I expect him to be. So he's like a fresh air in this book. Expecially because when he's in, I don't have to being trap as an audience in drama that Adam and Juliette created. So he's the reason why I continue to read the last book.

Ignite Me

Not Much to said. I just like this book more than the previous because the love story changed from Juliette x Adam into Juliette x Warner.
Some people doesn't like this book and the ending. well I can't be agree more with them. The ending aren's satisfying enough. But I stopped gave alot of hope so I just enjoy the moment when Juliette discovering the real Warner. So that's what makes me continue read the whole novel.

Apparently " Ignite Me " isn't going to be the last book in the trilogy. And it's not a trilogy anymore because Tahereh Mafi announced a news recently that the stories will continue in book 4,5, and 6.

......................................................................................................

Anyway, despite all of the things that I said , this series is very popular among YA's reader. It also got a high rated in Goodreads.

I myself gave a rated :

SHATTER ME : 2 STARS

IGNITE ME ; 2 STARS

UNRAVEL ME ; 2 STARS

Even with all  judge I gave to this novels, that doesn't mean you will not like it. There is a reasons why this novels are popular. And If I couldn't find the reason, you probably will find it.
And again, just because I didn't gave a high stars to this novels, that doesn't mean that this novel aren't good enough. it's just that the story isn't my taste :) but still, you should try to taste it yourself to find out if you would like it or not :D

HAPPY READING FRIENDS!

Find me on ..
